The late Lloyd Morrissette, one of Alhambra’s leading merchants dealing in fine furs and expert fur work, headed a successful business located at 712 East Main Street, which is being carried on by his widow, Mrs. Lloyd (Muriel) Morrissette.

Lloyd Morrissette was born on August 4, 1902, in St. Anne, Illinois, the son of Archille and Sarah (Gibson) Morrissette.  He received his early education at St. Anne Elementary and High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Beginning his career in the fur business at the age of seventeen, Mr. Morrissette was employed for over twenty years as the manager of The Grand in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

On June 25, 1938, Mr. Morrissette married Miss Muriel Markham in a garden wedding at the home of her parents in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin.

In 1943, five years after their marriage, the Morrissette’s moved to California, where Mr. Morrissette became associated with Willard George in Los Angeles prior to opening his own fur salon in 1944 in Alhambra.

Very active in local civic affairs, Mr. Morrissette gave freely of his time for community undertakings, centering his attention on local school bond issues.  A member of the Alhambra Chamber of Commerce, he was also a member of the Alhambra Lodge No. 1328, B.P.O.E., the American Fur Designers and the Fur Guild of America.  He was an active member of the Park School Parent-Teachers Association and in 1959 was honored by being awarded a life membership to the Park School PTA.  During World War II Mr. Morrissette was a member of the Civil Defense Corps of Alhambra.

Mrs. Morrissette is a 1927 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, where she majored in advertising.  She enjoyed her husband’s hobby of building a cabin in the desert, which gave him great pleasure and satisfaction in completing all the improvements and the finishing.  Their three children, Joy, born June 15, 1940; Melinda, born on March 25, 1946; and Mark, who was born on December 19, 1949, also enjoy the family retreat in the desert.

After her husband’s death on April 3, 1959, Mrs. Morrissette very capably took over the management of the fur studio which is located at 712 East Main Street.  In addition to her busy work schedule, Mrs. Morrissette is active in local Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts.  In 1961 she was awarded an honorary lifetime membership in the Park School Parent-Teachers Association, an organization she has actively participated in for many years.
