LOUIE MILLER
Louie Miller, who has been connected
with the department of public works of the city of Los Angeles during the past
thirty-two years, is now superintendent of paving in the bureau of engineering. He was born in Anaheim, Orange County,
California, February 20, 1885, his parents being Louis and Margaret (Bauer)
Miller, who were married in Germany.
After crossing the Atlantic to the United States in 1885 they made their
way direct to Anaheim, California, and a few weeks after the birth of their son
Louie came to Los Angeles, first establishing their home on Broadway, opposite
the court house. The father was employed
as a butcher by the Maier Packing Company to the time of his death, which
occurred in 1887. The mother is still
living and makes her home in Downey, Los Angeles County. Two sons, Fred and Louie, the subject of this
sketch, also survive.
Louie Miller of this review attended
the grammar school on Amelia Street in Los Angeles and also mastered a
correspondence school course. He was a
youth of sixteen years when in 1901 he entered the department of public works
of the city of Los Angeles, with which he has been continuously identified
throughout the intervening period of more than three decades, during which he
has witnessed a great many changes and marked progress in the
municipality. In his present position of
paving superintendent he has rendered valuable service in the upkeep and
improvement of Los Angeles’ fine thoroughfares.
In 1908 Mr. Mill was united in
marriage to Miss Edith Frary, who was born on Ann
Street in “Old Dog Town,” Los Angeles, her father having come to this city from
Massachusetts. Mr. and Mrs. Miller are
the parents of a son, Kenneth L.
Mr. Miller gives his political
allegiance to the Republican Party and has membership in the Jonathan
Club. He is a Mason being a member of Covenant Lodge, No.
527, F. & A. M.; Los Angeles Chapter, No. 33, R. A. M.; Los Angeles
Commandery No. 9, K. T.; and Al Malaikah Temple. He is a past president of the City Employees
Masonic Club, as well as a past president of the Twenty-five Years Club in the
engineering department of public works.
Mr. Miller is fond of deep sea fishing and makes his home at 280 South
Burlington Street, Los Angeles and has a summer home at Hermosa Beach.
