CARL PATTERSON MILLER

 

 

     Carl Patterson Miller, executive director of Dow Jones & Company, Inc., Pacific Coast Division, publishers of the Pacific Coast Edition of The Wall Street Journal, was born in Riley, Kansas, Oct. 30, 1897.  He is the son of Alexander Quintelle and Martha Lavina (Patterson) Miller.  Student at Kansas State College, 1916-19. 

     Mr. Miller was publisher of the Belleville (Kansas) Telescope, 1919 to 1925; in financial department of the Los Angeles (California) Times, 1925 to 1927; manager of Los Angeles office of New York News Bureau, 1928 to 1929, secretary and manager of Los Angeles Stock Exchange in 1929; vice president and general manager of Dow, Jones & Company, Ltd., financial and business news service publishers of Pacific Coast Edition of The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles, 1929 to 1939, and president from 1939 to 1946 when Dow Jones & Company, Ltd., was merged with Dow Jones & Company, Inc.; executive director of Dow­ Jones & Company, Inc., Pacific Coast Division since 1946.  Mr. Miller is also president of San Gabriel Valley Newspapers, Inc., director of Covina National Bank, and a director of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, treasurer of the Los Angeles Rotary Club, trustee of California Junior Republic, and a member of the Advisory Committee of the California Newspaper Publishers Association.  He is a member and past national president of Sigma Delta Chi, and a member of Sigma Nu Fraternities.  He is a past president of the rotary Club of Los Angeles and past district governor of District 160 of Rotary International.  He is a Republican, Presbyterian, and member of the Los Angeles Advertising Club, Los Angeles Press Club, Shadow Mountain Club (Palm Springs) and the Los Angeles Stock Exchange Club.

     Mr. Miller married Marvel Merillat on September 24, 1920 (deceased):  children, Carl Patterson, Jr., and Martha Irene.  Married to Ruth Bohe  June 7, 1950.
