FRANK FINLEY MERRIAM

 

Frank Finley Merriam, former Governor of California, was born in Hopkinton, Iowa, on December 22, 1865. He received his education at Lenox College, Hopkinton, Iowa.

Mr. Merriam began his career as principal of schools in Iowa and Nebraska; then member of the Iowa House of Representatives from 1896 to 1898, and auditor for the State of Iowa for two terms. He became engaged in newspaper business in Iowa, Indian Territory, and with the Long Beach (California) Press. President of Citizens State Bank of Long Beach, California, from 1924 to 1926; member of the California House of Representatives for six terms and elected to the State Senate in 1928. Served as Lieutenant Governor of California from 1931 to 1934 and Governor from 1934 to 1939.

Mr. Merriam is in the real estate business in Long Beach, California, is honorary president of the State Real Estate Association and president emeritus of the Long Beach Advertising and Sales Club. Republican.
