FORREST HUBERT McMEEN
Mr. Forrest Hubert McMeen is one of
the self-made men in southern California, whose career is an inspiring record
of progress and achievements, accomplished through his own efforts, ability and
energy by purposeful study and hard work.
He rose from minor positions in various companies to become general manager
of Tubing Seal Cap Company, 808 West Santa Anita Street, San Gabriel,
California. He is vice-president of Voi-Shan Industries, Inc., in Los Angeles, California, president
and member of the board of directors of Short Run Stamping Co., Inc., in El
Monte, California, and member of the board of directors of Microsound
Inc., in Culver City, California.
In
1958 Mr. F. H. McMeen was appointed general manager of Tubing Seal Cap Company
which at the present time employs more than 220 people. The company, then named Tubing Seal Cap, Inc.,
was founded in 1941 by R. A. Livingston and Frank W. Livermont, and was located at 2811 East 11th
Street in Los Angeles. In 1951 the firm
moved to its present location at 808 West Santa Anita Street in San Gabriel,
California. When in 1958 the company was
sold to Pheoll Manufacturing Company, an Illinois corporation, the name was changed
to Tubing Seal Cap Company, Division of Pheoll Manufacturing Company, and Mr.
McMeen was appointed general manager of Tubing Seal Cap Company. Pheoll Manufacturing Company was sold in
1959. Its directors formed Voi-Shan Industries, Inc. at 650 South Grand Avenue in Los
Angeles, and Tubing Seal Cap Company became one of its divisions, with Mr. F.
H. McMeen as general manager.
Tubing
Seal Cap Company manufactures high-quality, intricate, precision metal
stampings, and has developed and patented a process for the manufacture of one
piece door knobs, supplying door knobs to most of the lockset manufacturers in
the United States and Canada, which are resold under various trade names. Tubing Seal Cap’s name was formed in the
beginning from the fact that they first introduced closures (seal caps and seal
plugs) which were designed to keep out dust, dirt, and moisture, and to protect
the threads of aircraft hydraulic parts and tubing fittings from damage. Later in 1948 the doorknob manufacturing was
added, and in addition, the company has expanded its operation with
thread-stamp, eyelet and multi-slide machines, and with other punch presses.
Mr.
Forrest Hubert McMeen was born on June 8, 1919, in Anselmo, Nebraska. His parents are Forrest Jay and Edith Ferne (Cosner) McMeen. After
receiving an elementary education Mr. McMeen graduated from College View High
School in Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1937. He

World War II Mr. McMeen served in the United States Navy from August 26, 1944
to April 4, 1946, when he received an honorable discharge as Machinist’s Mate
Specialist Second Class. While in the
Navy he took engineering and diesel engineering. He continued to study by taking a course in
mechanical drawing and mathematics in 1947 from the International Correspondence
School in New York. At the University of
California at Los Angeles he attended seminars in business management in 1953
and 1954, and in 1957 he attended a seminar on small business administration,
in which special emphasis was put on production management, engineering and
business administration.
Before
starting his career with Tubing Seal Cap, Inc. as plant superintendant and vice
president of manufacturing, Mr. McMeen worked as foreman for Gilfillan Bros.,
Inc., as shop superintendent for National Parts Company, as plant
superintendent of R. P. Oldham Company.
On May 12, 1958, he was appointed to his present position as general
manager of Tubing Seal Cap Company.
