JOHN
W. McINTIRE
The
quality of man’s work often depends on his tools, but more often on the
efficiency, ingenuity and farsightedness of the man who handles these tools.
John
W. McIntire, President of McIntire & Quiros, Inc., at 670 Monterey Pass
Road in Monterey Park, California, has not only the equipment, instruments and
tools, and the men to use them, but is himself a hard working member of the
staff, and takes charge of project planning.
His is a licensed surveyor and a member of the American Congress on
Surveying and Mapping, has been on the board of directors of the Civil
Engineers and Land Surveyors Association of California for ten years, and is a
member of the American Society of Photogrammetry. He works with a staff of engineers who are
qualified by training and experience to work out any complex engineering
problems in the development of raw land into desirable residential communities
and successful industrial areas. Frequently
new techniques have to be developed, and in order to solve the problems
encountered in large scale engineering, it is often required to determine the
hydraulic aspects of flood control, soil and water conservation; to develop
master plans for storm drains in city and county areas; to compute and draw
pipeline maps, design water treatment and sewage treatment plants, design
streets, roads and highways; grade and level subdivisions and to make aerial
surveys. The firm of McIntire &
Quiros uses this relatively new art of aerial mapping, called Photogrammetry,
in their land surveys. The aerial
picture taken by a precision high-speed camera and projected by the Kelsh Stereoplotter makes it
possible to view in three dimensions all that was recorded by the camera. The map can be drawn directly upon the
projected picture. McIntire
& Quiros, Inc., functions as an engineering office of subdivision planners,
civil engineers, consulting engineers and land surveyors. Through excellence of performance, the firm
has established an outstanding record in industry. They serve federal, state, municipal and
private agencies as well as industry, the general public, military services and
public utilities. Mr. McIntire, the
young and progressive president of McIntire & Quiros, Inc., takes pride in
the fact that the average age of his employees is only thirty-seven years.
John
W. McIntire was born on July 23, 1921, in New Jersey, the son of John w. and
Ethel (Junge) McIntire. His father was a stockbroker. The family moved to California in 1929. Young John W. McIntire attended Los Angeles
High School, and continued his studies with the International Correspondence
School. During World War II, he served
as a sergeant in the United States Maine Corps, from January, 1943, to April,
1946. His unit received the Presidential
Citation for bravery during the fighting campaign around Saipan in the South
Pacific.
In
1946 Mr. McIntire joined the firm of William H. Fair, Jr., Inc., Civil
Engineers and Land Surveyors. In 1956 he
was made a partner in the firm. Upon the
retirement of Mr. Fair in 1956, Mr. McIntire purchased all the outstanding
stock of the firm. At that time he
became president of the firm; Mr. Fernandos Quiros, who had joined the business in 1950, became vice-president,
and the name was changed to McIntire & Quiros, Inc.
In
1943, John W. McIntire married Miss Norma Cameron, in a ceremony which took
place in Los Angeles. They are the
parents of two children, Marcia, age seventeen, and James, who is twelve years
of age.
Mr.
McIntire is a member of the Monterey Park Chamber of Commerce. An avid yachtsman, he owns his own boat; the
ocean and the sky are his relaxation.
