The daughter of Leroy C. J. and Lucy Marian (Meader) Harvey, both of Iowa, and both of whose families go back to Revolutionary days, Thelma H. McComb was born in Denver, Colorado, on July 16, 1907, and came to California, to Fair Oaks in Sacramento County, at the age of five.  She graduated from University High School in West Los Angeles in 1928 and from Wilkins Business College in Santa Monica the following year.

Mrs. McComb came to Rosemead in 1935, and while her two daughters were still in school gave generously of her time to the Muscatel Parent-Teachers’ Association in which she was president in 1947-1948, where she was presented a life membership; she was the second president of Rosemead High School Parent-Teachers’ Association in 1951.  While her daughters were young Mrs. McComb was very active also in Girl Scouts, served as commissioner of the Rosemead Council in 1942-1943, and is the recipient of a Thanks Badge from the council.  In 1956 Mrs. McComb was president of the Rosemead Homemakers and still serves as its publicity chairman.  Identified with the Rosemead Women’s Club for a number of years, Mrs. McComb was its president in 1958-1959, was district chairman from 1958 to 1960 of the San Gabriel Valley District of the California Federation of Women’s Clubs, and is a charter member of the district’s recently formed Alumnae Association.  Mrs. McComb is a past president of the Rosemead Federated Republican Women’s Club, has been active as a campaign worker, and is a member of the Temple City League of Women Voters.  She is presently serving on the election board as clerk.  For the past three years she has been publicity chairman of District 4, Area 2, of the American Cancer Society, and in 1958 was chairman of the Heart Fund Drive in Rosemead.  She is a charter member, director, and in charge of publicity of the Rosemead Friends of the Library.  Mrs. McComb is also a present board member and publicity chairman of El Monte Family Service and is the editor of the Los Angeles County Senior Citizens Association News.  She was certainly active in the campaign for the incorporation of Rosemead, all three attempts.  She attends the Rosemead Community Methodist Church and for one year was recording secretary of the Women’s Society of Christian Service.

Six years before taking up residence in Rosemead, the former Thelma Harvey was married to Carroll Finney McComb on March 30, 1929, at St. Augustine-by-the-Sea in Santa Monica.  Mr. McComb is a native of Pine Island, Minnesota.  He graduated from Alhambra High School in 1924 and attended Arizona State College and the University of Southern California.  He is a senior engineer for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph.  Mr. McComb’s parents live in Temple City; his grandfather, Solon B. Finney, was active in the Alhambra Methodist Church.

The McCombs’ elder daughter is Hazel JoAnne Timmons-Jacobs, a 1948 graduate of El Monte High School where she was outstanding in journalism and singing.  She is the wife of William D. Jacobs and lives in El Monte.  Their children are:  Robert Wayne Jacobs, Richard Eugene Jacobs, Deborah Lynn Timmons, Leslie Lillian Timmons, and David Allen Jacobs.  The McCombs’ younger daughter is Mrs. Robert Keith (Carole Marian) Clark, a 1952 graduate of Rosemead High School where she was outstanding in music and art and member of Sagaths Service Club.  She lives in Covina with her husband and their two children, Cynthia Lynn and Scott Bradley.

Mrs. McComb has always been an avid reader.  She finds bowling a pleasant respite from her many other activities and duties.
