JOHN ALEX McCONE
John Alex McCone, corporation executive, was born January 4, 1902, in San Francisco, California. He is the son of Alexander and Margaret (Enright) McCone. Graduated from the University of California in 1922 with the degree of B.S.
Mr. McCone began his career as construction superintendent for the Llewellyn Iron Works in 1922; became superintendent of Consolidated Steel Corporation in 1929, and was executive vice president and director of same from 1933 to 1937. In 1937 he founded the Bechtel-McCone Corporation of which he has been president and director since 1937. Also president and director of Joshua Hendy Corporation and the California Shipbuilding Corporation; director of Marinship Corporation, Industrial Indemnity Company, Founder’s Fire and Marine Insurance Company; chairman of the Board of Directors of Pacific Far East Line, Inc., and Pacific Tankers, Inc.; president of Los Angeles Area Building funds, Inc.; and was a member of the President’s Air Policy Commission, 1947-48.
Mr. McCone holds membership in the following clubs: California (Los Angeles); Pacific Union (San Francisco); and Metropolitan (Washington, D.C.).
On June 21, 1938, Mr. McCone married Rosemary Cooper. Their home is at 1100 Oak Grove Avenue, San Marino 5, California.
