DR. STUART H. MAUDE, D.V.M.

 

 

            The only veterinarian practicing in Rosemead, Dr. Stuart H. Maude, D.V.M., has been serving the community in that capacity since 1953, with five years’ prior experience as Los Angeles County Senior Veterinarian.  Dr. Maude limits his practice to small animals and offers the most modern facilities possible.  He is now in partnership with his brother, Dr. Arthur E. Maude.  They are both graduates of the same school, Ontario Veterinary College, University of Toronto, Dr. Stuart Maude having done his graduate work at the University of Southern California, School of Medicine.

            A native of Seagrave, Ontario, Canada, Dr. Maude was born on June 18, 1916.  He is the son of Major and Ethel (Mills) Maude, both born in England.  Dr. Maude received his elementary and high school education at Guelph, Ontario, Canada, and graduated from the University of Toronto in 1941, receiving a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and a Veterinary Science degree.

            In 1941 Dr. Maude came to California, to Corona, and in 1942 lived in Santa Ana until his induction into the United States Army in December of that year.  Sent overseas in January, 1943, Dr. Maude was commissioned a first lieutenant the following year, and returned to the United States in June, 1945.  He was discharged at the end of 1945.  He is now a lieutenant-colonel in the United States Air Force Reserve.  While in the army, Dr. Maude met Lieutenant Vera E. Stafford of the Women’s Army Nurse Corps, a native of Bogalusa, Louisiana; they were married on March 16, 1946, at the Mission Inn in Riverside.  After their marriage the Maude’s became San Gabriel Valley residents.

            Dr. Maude is very active in civic as well as professional affairs.  He was president of the Rosemead Chamber of Commerce in 1960, and is serving as president of the Coordinating Council.  A Republican, Dr. Maude was on the Los Angeles County Central Committee in 1959.  He is on the Bishop’s Committee of Immanuel Episcopalian Church of El Monte.  A past president of the Alhambra 20-30, in 1947, Dr. Maude is also a member and past president, in 1956, of the Rosemead Kiwanis; he is a Mason, a member of Lodge Number 702 in Rosemead, and was president of the San Gabriel Valley Hi-Twelve Club in 1958.  He is also a past commander of the Orange County Canadian Legion, and is presently a member of the Air Force Association.  Dr. Maude is also a counselor for the Boy Scouts.  The professional associations of which Dr. Maude is a member include the Southern California, California, and American Veterinary Associations, of which he is now secretary of the San Gabriel chapter; he is a member of the Conference of Public Health Veterinarians.

            Dr. and Mrs. Maude are the parents of three children:  Susan Diane, a student at Rosemead High School; Patricia Kathleen and Stuart H. Maude, Jr., both students at Encinitas School in Rosemead, where Mrs. Maude is active in the Parent-Teachers’ Association.

            Dr. Maude is a great fancier of horses, and keeps saddle horses as his hobby.
