JOSEPH E. MADDEN
Diligent, energetic and purposeful,
Joseph E. Madden has eagerly availed himself of every opportunity to advance in
his profession and is one of the young and talented members of the legal fraternity
of Long Beach. Born in Salida, Colorado,
March 30, 1905, he is a son of Joseph and Mary (Quigley) Madden, the former a
native of Kentucky, while the latter was born in Donegal, Ireland. The father was a railway employee for many
years and has lived in Colorado for a half century. Mr. and Mrs. Madden are the parents of four
children.
In his native city Joseph E. Madden
acquired a high school education and pursued his classical studies in Notre
Dame University, which conferred upon him the Bachelor of Arts degree in
1927. He received the degree of Bachelor
of Laws from the University of Southern California in 1930 and while attending
that institution became a member of Phi Alpha Delta, a legal fraternity. In 1930 he was admitted to the California bar
and is now associated with the firm of Swaffield
& Swaffield, composed of Roland G. and Phil M. Swaffield. They have
a suite of offices in the Farmers & Merchants Bank Building at Long Beach
and theirs is considered the leading law firm of the city. Never fearing that laborious effort which
must precede ascendancy in all lines of endeavor, Mr. Madden frequently works
until late at night and is liberally endowed with those qualities which insure
success and prominence in the legal profession.
Reared a Catholic he has always adhered to that faith, and is a young
man of strong character and high moral worth.
