Biographies
ALEXANDER MACDONALD
Alexander Macdonald, attorney, was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on November 18, 1889. He is the son of Donald and Julia Lee (Alexander) Macdonald.
After attending grade and high schools in Cincinnati, Ohio, and in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, he entered the University of Virginia, from which he received the B.A. degree in 1911 and the B.L. degree in 1913. Admitted to the California bar in 1914.
Mr. Macdonald began his law career in 1914 in Los Angeles, California, in association with the firm of O’Melveny, Stevens & Millikin and remained with them approximately three years. In 1917 he enlisted in the United States Army and served first as lieutenant and later as captain adjutant with the 346th Field Artillery; saw overseas duty and received his honorable discharge in 1919. Resumed law practice in Los Angeles in association with Alfred Wright, which, in 1921, became the firm of Bauer, Wright & Macdonald; remained with successor firms until 1942. He was on leave from 1942 to 1943 to serve as Deputy regional Director for the War Production Board in charge of Los Angeles Area. Since 1943 he has been senior member of the firm of Macdonald & Pettit.
Member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of California, Los Angeles Bar Association; and the following clubs: California, Stock Exchange (Los Angeles); Pacific-Union (San Francisco); Anglers (New York).
Mr. Macdonald finds recreation in fishing, fly fishing, being his hobby. He is the author of “Design for Angling” (Houghton Mifflin), 1947.
On March 10, 1925, he married Mrs. Aileen Lucile McCarthy Adams and they have one daughter, Julia Alexander Lofgren, born in 1926.
