HARRY B. LOCKWOOD
The late Harry B. Lockwood, a
resident of Long Beach for two decades, enjoyed an enviable reputation in both
business and social circles of this city.
He was born in Coldwater, Michigan, January 18, 1877, his parents being
Byron and Elsie (Hibner) Lockwood, the latter a
native of the state of New York. Byron
Lockwood was born in Michigan and became a prominent hotel proprietor of that
state. Both he and his wife are still
living.
Harry B. Lockwood, an only child,
was but two years of age when taken by his parents to Cuba, New York, where he
attended the public schools. He became
an expert and artistic decorator and devoted his attention to that line of work
in the east until coming to California in 1912, when he took up his abode in
Long Beach. Here he was associated in
business with William Burgin, a building contractor, throughout the remainder
of his active career. His death occurred
February 20, 1932, when he was fifty-five years of age, and his loss brought a
sense of deep bereavement not only to the members of his immediate family but
also to the many friends he had won during the years of his residence in the
east as well as in Long Beach. A worthy
exemplar of the teachings and purposes of the Masonic fraternity he belonged to
the blue lodge in Cuba, New York, and to the Royal Arch chapter in Long Beach,
California. His favorite form of
recreation was golf.
On the 12th of June,
1901, Mr. Lockwood was united in marriage to Miss Grace Alexander, a daughter
of William and Jane (Morton) Alexander.
Mrs. Lockwood was educated in the schools of New York. She has membership in the Ebell
Club of Long Beach and still resides in the old family home at 1129 Locust
Street in this city.
