HAROLD CLAYTON LLOYD

 

 

HAROLD CLAYTON LLOYD, president of Harold Lloyd Corporation, was born in Burchard, Nebraska, On April 20, 1894; son of J. Darsie and Sarah Elizabeth (Fraser) Lloyd.  His education was received in the public grade and high schools at Denver, Colorado, and San Diego, California.

            Mr. Lloyd began his motion picture career at the age of nineteen as an extra with the Edison Company at San Diego, California; later with Universal and other Hollywood film companies.  He joined Hal E. Roach in 1914 and stared in one-reel comedies known as “Lonesome Lukes.”  Starred in “Sailor Made Man,” Grandma’s Boy,” “Dr. Jack,” “Safety Last,” “Why Worry,” and many others.

            In 1923 he organized the Harold Lloyd Corporation and since then has produced: “Girl Shy,” “Hot Water,” “The Freshman,” “For Heaven’s Sake,” The Kid Brother,” and “Speedy.”  Also produced the first talking picture “Welcome Danger,” producer of “Professor Beware,” “A Girl, A Guy and A Gob” (for R.K.O. Radio Pictures).

            Member of the Masonic Order (past potentate Al Malaikah Temple of the Shrine) and member of the following clubs: Uplifters, Los Angeles Athletic, Writers, Los Angeles Country, Southern California Athletic, Hollywood Athletic, Wilshire Country; Lambs (New York).

            Mr. Lloyd married Mildred Davis on February 10, 1923, and they have three children:  Mildred Gloria, Marjorie Elizabeth and Harold.  The family home in in Beverly Hills, California, at Benedict Canyon.
