WARREN EDGAR
LIBBY
Warren Edgar Libby, attorney, was born in Lisbon, Maine, on April 8, 1888; son of
Warren Leland and Rachel Ann (Woodrow) Libby.
His early education was obtained in the public schools of Auburn and Lisbon, Maine; then attended Bates College (Lewiston, Maine) from which he graduated in 1909 with the A.B. degree. He acted as teacher and athletic coast at Goddard Seminary (Barre, Vermont), 1909-10; then studied law at the George Washington University Law School, 1910 to 1912, and was admitted to the California bar in 1912.
Mr. Libby was in law practice, individually, at San Diego, California, from 1912 to 1923; then removed to Los Angeles, California, where he again practiced alone until 1928, at which time he became a member of the firm of Libby and Sherwin. Since April 1, 1937, he has practiced alone.
He was chief counsel for the Pickwick Stages System from 1913 to 1932, at which time they merged with the Pacific Greyhound Lines, Inc. He organized The Pickwick Corporation in 1927 and was general counsel, vice president and director of same from 1923 to 1936; is also general counsel for the Pickwick Hotels; counsel for Pacific Greyhound Corporation until 1947; managing editor of Pickwick Papers from 1928 to 1930; organizer, in 1932; and general counsel for Columbia Pacific Nitecoach Lines, 1932 to 1942, and of the Los Angeles Shipbuilding & Drydock Corporation, 1942 to 1944; member of Board of Legal Advisors of United States Civil Service Commission from 1941 to 1944; chairman of Four-Minute Men of San Diego County during World War I; member of local draft board during World War II, 1942-45; chairman of Advisory Board for Little Theatre of Beverly Hills from 1932 to 1934.
Member of the American Bar Association, American Law Institute, State Bar of California (member of Committee to Revise Corporation Law, 1928-33; member of Legislative Committee; Chairman of Conference of Delegates, 1943-45; chairman of County Courts Committee, 1944 to 1951; member of Board of Governors, 1947 to 1950), Los Angeles Bar Association (chairman of Judiciary Committee, 1933-35; member of Legislative Committee, 1935-37), San Diego Bar Association (director, 1923); Masonic Lodge, 33rd degree; Men’s Club of Beverly Hills (president, 1933); belongs to the Christian Science Church (first reader, 1920-22; and is a Republican.
Mr. Libby married Elsie Pomeroy on June 30, 1913. Their home is at 7l8 North Camden Drive, Beverly Hills, California.
