JOSEPH L.
LEWINSON
Joseph L. Lewinson is a lawyer of
state-wide reputation.
It may be true, as is often said in
the profession, that a lawyer’s work “lies in
pais.”
Nevertheless, Mr. Lewinson’s name
will be found on the record, not only in cases of importance to the parties
before the courts, but also in cases requiring the solution of novel and
important questions of law.
Mr. Lewinson has the distinction of
being one of the few lawyers who has reversed the Supreme Court of California
in the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Lewinson is at home in the
office as well as in the forum, and appears to be equally effective before
juries and courts of last resort.
In its recent litigation with the
chain banks, the State Bar of California was represented by Mr. Lewinson.
Mr. Lewinson is a member of the
local, state and national bar associations.
He is also a member of the University Club of Los Angeles.
Mr. Lewinson was born in Chicago,
Illinois, January 20, 1884. He was
educated in the public schools of Chicago and at the University of
Chicago. In his academic course he
received honors in history and economics, as well as a Phi Beta Kappa key. He received his law degree cum laude. He came to Los Angeles in 1914, where he
since has been engaged in the practice of his profession.
On June 9, 1921, Mr. Lewinson was
married to Miss Margaret Mayer, a native of Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Lewinson reside at 541 South
Arden boulevard in Los Angeles, and are the parents of
three children, Joan, Joseph, Jr., and Ann, all of whom are pupils in the
public schools of Los Angeles.
