EDMOND
M. LAZARD, M. D.
Under
leading medical instructors in this country and abroad Dr. Edmond M. Lazard
made exceptionally thorough preparation for his profession, which he has
followed successfully in Los Angeles for many years, and is at his best in
surgical work and in the treatment of the diseases of women. He was born in Los Angeles, March 20, 1876, a
son of Solomon and Caroline (Newmark) Lazard, who
settled here in pioneer times.
After
mastering the branches of learning taught in the grammar and high schools of
his city Dr. Lazard enrolled in the University of Southern California, which
awarded him the M. D. degree in 1897, and he supplemented this by post-graduate
work in Berlin, Dresden and Munich, Germany, and Paris, France, the leading
medical centers of the world. Well
equipped, he entered upon his professional career in Los Angeles in 1902 and
has practiced here for thirty-two years.
A renowned specialist in gynecology and obstetrics, Dr. Lazard delights
in research work and as a result of his scientific investigations has
ascertained valuable truths. These he
has contributed to the literature of his profession and his published works
include monographs on eclampsia and other obstetrical subjects. He is senior attending obstetrician to the
Los Angeles General Hospital; attending surgeon to the California Lutheran
Hospital and the Cedars of Lebanon Hospital; consulting obstetrician to
Hollywood Hospital; and professor of clinical obstetrics at the Loma Linda
Medical College.
On
August 9, 1911, Dr. Lazard was married to Miss Ida Schwab, of Cleveland, Ohio,
and they now have three children: Flora,
Rosalie and Manfred. Dr. Lazard belongs
to Los Angeles Parlor of the Native Sons of the Golden West. His fraternal affiliations are with the
various Masonic bodies, and the Independent Order of B’nai B’rith. He has never lost the attitude of a student
toward his profession, of which he is a learned exponent and distinguished
representative. His membership therein
is with the Symposium Medical Society of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles
Obstetrical Society, the Los Angeles County Medical Society, the Southern
California Medical Society, the California State Medical Society, the American
Medical Association, the American Association of Obstetricians, Gynecologists,
and Abdominal Surgeons. Dr. Lazard and
his family reside at 547 South Kingsley Drive, and his office is at 1930
Wilshire Road.
