Biographies
OSCAR LAWLER
Oscar Lawler, attorney, was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, on April 2, 1875, the son of William Thomas and Margaret (O’Connor) Lawler.
After public school education, he read law while acting as messenger and secretary to United States Circuit Judge Erskine M. Ross, of California, and was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1896.
Mr. Lawler was in law practice in Los Angeles, California, for many years as member of the firm of Lawler, Allen & Van Dyke. From 1907 to 1909 he served as United States Attorney for Southern District of California; resigned. From May 1, 1909 to May 1, 1911, acted as Assistant Attorney General of the United States, assigned to the Interior Department; resigned and resume practice of law in Los Angeles; member of the firm of Lawler, Felix, & Hall, of which he is senior partner.
.Mr. Lawler is director of the Pacific Indemnity Company, Farmers and Merchants National Bank of Los Angeles. Served as Major and Judge Advocate, 1st Brigade, National Guard of California.
Member of the American and Los Angeles Bar Association, State Bar of California, American Society of International Law; California Institute of Technology Associates; Republican; grand master of the Grand Lodge of Masons of Los Angeles, 1909; member of the California Club, Los Angeles Club (Los Angeles); and Bohemian Club of San Francisco.
On June 17, 1901, Mr. Lawler married Hilda Brode; children: Charles Brode, Helen Jane (Mrs. Stern), Oscar Thom and Ross.
