DONALD RICHARDS KRAG

The only father and son attorney team in Alhambra does not talk much about politics because the son, Donald Richards Krag, is a Republican and the father, Donald O. Krag, is a Democrat.

A native Californian, Donald R. Krag was born on February 7, 1927, in Pasadena, California.  He is the son of Donald O. and Dorothy (Hibbard) Krag.  His late grandfather, Louis Richards Hibbard, a tool and die maker, was active in the Alhambra Police Commission and other civic endeavors.

Young Mr. Krag attended Polytechnic School in Pasadena, and the Catalina Island School for Boys, which is now called Cate School.  He attended the University of California at Los Angeles from 1946 to 1948, after serving two years with the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater.  He was trained in aviation radio school and later became an aviation photographer’s mate, third class.  He was graduated from Southwestern University College of Law, in Los Angeles, California, in 1951, and passed the Bar in 1952, after which he became associated as a partner in his father’s law firm.

A member of the San Gabriel Valley Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the State of California Bar Association and the American Bar Association, Mr. Krag is a member of the board of directors and 1957 past president of the Plaintiff’s Trial Lawyers Association of Los Angeles.  He is affiliated with the National Association of Claimants Counsel of America and the American Judicature Society.

In 1956 this busy young attorney served as president of the Duarte Rotary Club and is currently a member of the Alhambra Rotary Club, and the Alhambra Chamber of Commerce.  He is a member and past president of the board of trustees of the Arcadia Congregational Church.

Mr. Krag’s fraternal affiliations are the Phi Kappa Sigma; the Granada Masonic Lodge No. 608 of Alhambra; the Pasadena Consistory; the Al Malaikah Shrine; the Rio Hondo Shrine Club and the Alhambra High Twelve Club.

Mr. Krag married Miss Merrilyn Joan Waters of Whittier, on October 18, 1947, in the Episcopal Church of Our Savior in San Gabriel.  Mrs. Krag is an alumnus of Whittier College and Chatham College.  She is an active member of the Alhambra Rotary Ann’s.  The Krag’s have five sons:  Theodore Richards, age 11; Daniel Russell, age 9; William Robert, age 5, all of whom attend Santa Anita Elementary School; and Thomas Raymond, age 3, and Charles Randall, age 1.

Especially interested in sports, Mr. Krag is an avid golfer, holding a membership in the Glendora Country Club.  The history of the United States and its well-being is of prime concern to Donald R. Krag.  He and his father have an extensive library of American Heritage books, which they display in their office.
