JOHN WILLIAM KEMP

A high place among members of the California bar is occupied by John W. Kemp, senior member of the law firm of Kemp, Partridge & Kemp, of Los Angeles. He is one of the practical, self-made lawyers of the state, and his success is founded on natural ability, thorough grounding in the fundamentals of law, and persistent effort, intelligently directed.

Mr. Kemp is a native of the state of Wisconsin, and was born in 1863. When five years of age he moved with his parents to California, and his early education training was obtained in public schools of that state. He later attended the Stockton Business College and Normal School at Stockton, then taught school three years and engaged in the study of law, being admitted to the bar in 1892.

The following year Mr. Kemp moved to Los Angeles and engaged in practice alone. He later became senior member of the firm of Kemp, Mitchell, Silberberg & Davis, and after the dissolution of that association the present firm of Kemp, Partridge & Kemp was formed. They engage in general practice, specializing in corporation and financial law, and are accorded a representative clientele, being counsel for a number of important Southwestern interests.

Mr. Kemp holds membership in the American Bar Association, State Bar of California and Los Angeles County Bar Association. He is a Mason and Shriner, and also a member of the University Club, Bel Air Country Club, Los Angeles City Club and various other organizations. In 1896 he married Georgia Thatcher and they have one son, Thatcher J. Kemp, junior member of the firm.
