JOSEPH JENSEN

 

Joseph Jensen, engineer, was born December 18, 1886, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of

Andrew and Anna S. (Johansen) Jensen.

Received a B.S. degree in Mining Engineering from University of Utah in 1908; did postgraduate work in Geology and Mining Engineering at Royal School of Mines, Freiberg, Germany, 1912; received the M.A. degree in Geology and Mining Engineering from Columbia University in 1913.

Mr. Jensen was mineral inspector for United States General Land Office, 1908-10 and 1913-16; assistant professor of Mining, Carnegie Institute of Technology, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 1916-17; geologist and chief petroleum engineer for Tide Water Associated Oil Company (Western Division) and predecessor companies, Los Angeles, California, since 1917. Consultant geologist for Pacific Electric Railway Company, Los Angeles, since 1924.

Director of Metropolitan Water District, 1940-44, and since 1946 (vice chairman of the Board, 1948); chairman of the Board of Directors, Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, since January 28, 1949(elected); director of Kettleman, North Dome Association since 1937; director of Canoga Citrus Association since 1946 and president of same since 1950; former member of Board of Water and Power Commissioners, Department of Water and Power, City of Los Angeles, February to December, 1944, 1944; member of Board of Directors of Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Chamber’s Water and Power Resources Committee, 1935-47; member and past chairman of Conservation Committee of the California Oil Producers, and predecessor committees, since 1929; member of Los Angeles Engineering Council of Founders Societies, 1939-48 (chairman for three years); member of Local Section of American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers (chairman one year). Member of American Association of Petroleum Geologists, American Petroleum Institute, Wilshire Country Club, and Petroleum Club of Los Angeles. He is a Republican.

On June 5, 1918, Mr. Jensen married Lois Wallace of Salt Lake City, Utah, and has two sons, Joseph Wallace and John Henry. They live in Los Angeles, California, at 2220 Cheswick Lane.
