GORDON E. HOUGH
The
originator of the Hough Patrol which serves seven San Gabriel communities
between seven in the evening and six in the morning protecting business,
schools, home and factories which subscribe to the service, is Gordon E. Hough,
who has lived in Alhambra since 1946, and who recently received a state
license for his new firm, the Western States Security Service, which will be
the only company in California to furnish underwater investigation and
underwater search and recovery. Also
available will be lie detector service with criminal investigation.
Mr.
Hough was born in Sutersville, Pennsylvania, on December 18, 1911. His father, Frank Hough, was born in
Crabtree, Pennsylvania, on April 12, 1873, and worked as a coal miner in
Sutersville for over twenty years. His
mother, Sophia (Deutsch) Hough was born in Pennsylvania on April 18, 1874. Gordon E. Hough completed eight years of
grade school in Sutersville.
On
June 14, 1933, Mr. Hough was married to the former Miss Alva E. Lusvardi in the minister’s home in Wellsburg, West
Virginia. The Hough’s have one son,
Gordon L. Hough, who was born on his mother’s birthday, December 23, in
1935. He is employed by the Los Angeles
County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy.
When
Mr. Hough’s son was nine years old, the family purchased a trailer for a
cross-country trip; while traveling through Texas, a flat tire forced the
family to leave the trailer for a time while they went for repairs. On their return they found that the trailer
had been broken into and all their valuables stolen—an experience they will
never forget.
Arriving
in Alhambra in 1946, Mr. Hough worked for the C. F. Braun Company until 1947,
when he became employed as a meat-cutter for Safeway stores. In 1955 he left
Safeway and worked for the Don Taylor Meat Markets in Gateway Stores.
He
has been a member of the Masonic Order, Alhambra Lodge Number 322, since
1950. He joined the Alhambra High Twelve
Club, a Masonic organization, in 1960.
Mr.
Hough spent much of 1953 – 1955 roughing it in the mountainous areas of
California searching, fully equipped, for uranium deposits. He started with four claims in Riverside
County, renewing them each year. He
hopes someday to be able to work his claims.
For
relaxation Mr. Hough plays golf.
