Biographies
PAUL HOY HELMS
Paul Hoy Helms, president of Helms Bakeries, was born in Ottawa, Kansas, on September 19, 1889. He is the son of the Reverend Elmer Ellsworth (D.D.) and Ora (Hoy) Helms.
After graduating from Lafayette High School, Buffalo, New York, in 1908, he entered Syracuse University, from which he graduated in 1912 with the A.B. degree (LL.D. degree, 1948).
From 1914 to 1923, Mr. Helms was president of the Hall Baking Company at Buffalo, New York; then secretary and treasurer for the Ward Baking Company, New York from 1924 to 1925; president of General Baking Corporation from 1925 to 1926; now president of Helms Bakeries at Los Angeles, California. He is also director of Smoke Tree Ranch, Inc., Los Angeles Area Building Funds, Inc., and Greater Los Angeles Plans, Inc.
Fellow, Claremont College; member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity; Mason; Republican; Methodist; and member of the California and Los Angeles Country Clubs.
Mr. Helms married Pearl E. Ellis on June 10, 1914, and they have three children: Paul Hoy, Jr., Elizabeth Jane and Lois M. Their home is in Los Angeles, California, at 10401 Wilshire Boulevard.
