EUGENE ALSTON HAWKINS

A prominent position in legal circles of the state of California has been attained by Eugene A. Hawkins, senior member of the law firm of Hawkins & Hawkins, of Los Angeles. He is a native of Georgia, born in 1871 at Americus, and received his early educational training in public schools of that state. His legal training was obtained at the University of Virginia and in the office of his father, the late Eugene A. Hawkins, Sr., and he was admitted to the bar in Texas in 1895.

Mr. Hawkins entered upon the practice of his profession at Galveston, and shortly became a member of the firm of Davidson, Minor & Hawkins, which later became Davidson & Hawkins. The latter firm was dissolved in 1903 when Mr. Davidson became Attorney General of Texas, and he then practiced alone until he left the state in 1910. From 1897 to 1910 he served as Attorney for the Galveston City Company, which owned and laid out Galveston in 1838.

From 1910 to 1920 Mr. Hawkins practiced alone at Los Angeles, and then organized the present firm of Hawkins & Hawkins. He specializes in corporation and oil law, though engaging in general civil practice, and is accorded a large practice of representative character.

Mr. Hawkins holds membership in the American Bar Association, State Bar of California, Texas Bar Association and Los Angeles County Bar Association, as well as the California Club, Gamut Club, and Los Angeles Country Club. He is also a Mason, being a member of the Shrine and Scottish Rite. In 1893 he married Elmina L. Landes and they have one son, Eugene A. Hawkins, Jr., junior member of his father's firm.
