SAMUEL MOODY
HASKINS
In this era of public supervision of commerce and industry a certain amount of business training is necessary to the successful practice of law. A thorough business man as well as an able lawyer, Samuel M. Haskins, member of the firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, of Los Angeles, has attained splendid success as a member of the California bar. He is a native of Utah, and was born in 1872 at Salt Lake City. After receiving his early educational training in public schools he attended the University of California, which conferred on him the A. B. degree in 1893. He was admitted to the California bar in 1895.
From 1897 to 1903 Mr. Haskins served as Clerk of the Los Angeles City Council, and he then became associated with the law firm of Dunn & Crutcher. In 1908 he became a member of the firm of Bicknell, Gibson, Trask, Dunn & Crutcher, which later became Gibson, Trask, Dunn & Crutcher, and then assumed the present form of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.
They represent as Counsel many large interests, including the Los Angeles Street Railway, Santa Catalina Island Company, Pacific Coast Company, Wilmington Transportation Company, Los Angeles Shipbuilding & Drydock Company, Southern California Edison Company, Baker Iron Works, Los Angeles Junction Railway Company, Arabella D. and H. E. Huntington estates, and various banks and bond houses.
Mr. Haskins is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of California, and Los Angeles County Bar Association, as well as the California Club, University Club, Los Angeles Country Club, Midwick Country Club, Los Angeles Athletic Club, and Bohemian Club of San Francisco. In 1902 he married Elisa Bonsall and they have three children, Samuel M., Jr., Barbara and Janet Emerson.
