SAMUEL GOLDWYN
Samuel Goldwyn (surname adopted), motion picture producer, was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1882. The son of Abraham and Hannah (Goldfish). He came to the United States in 1896 and became a naturalized citizen in 1902. He obtained his education in a night school.
Mr. Goldwyn organized the Jesse Lasky Feature Photoplay Company in 1913, the Goldwyn Picture Corporation in 1916, the Eminent Authors Pictures, Inc., in 1919, also Samuel Goldwyn, Inc., and Famous Players-Lasky Corporation.
He was a director of the United Artists Corporation until 1940; now chairman of the board of Samuel Goldwyn Productions, inc.
Mr. Goldwyn was a pioneer in inducing eminent authors to work actively in writing for motion pictures. Among many stars he introduced to the screen were Vilma Banky, Eddie Cantor, Gary Cooper, Dana Andrews, Farley Granger and Danny Kaye. Recipient of the Motion Picture Academy Award for production of “The Best years of Our Lives,” 2947; recipient of Irving Thalberg Award for consistent high quality.
Mr. Goldwyn is married and lives I Beverly Hills, California.
