Biographies
NORMAN S. GLADWELL
As
owner and operator of the Alhambra Blueprint Company, Norman S. Gladwell is one
of the veteran businessmen of Alhambra, having taken over the firm in
1931. Today with the addition of new and
enlarged equipment, he has built the firm to handle any kind of work in the
reproduction line.
Mr.
Gladwell received his early schooling in Toronto, Canada, coming to Alhambra in
1924, when his family moved to this community. He enrolled at Alhambra High School and
graduated from this institution in 1926.
Following
his graduation, Mr. Gladwell went to work at the blueprint firm which was then
owned by Mr. Scott Adams. He stayed for
three years, then recognizing the need for further
education he enrolled at Pasadena City College, which was then known as
Pasadena Junior College, where he studied engineering. Soon after completing his course, Mr.
Gladwell purchased the blueprint company from Mr. Adams and went into business
for himself.
Mr.
Gladwell was born on August 10, 1908, in Toronto, Canada, to John F. and
Rebecca (Wright) Gladwell. His father
was a contractor and a Canadian Army veteran of World War I.
Locally
Mr. Gladwell is a member of the Alhambra, San Gabriel and United States Chamber
of Commerce; Granada Lodge No. 608, F. & A. M.; Alhambra Lodge No. 1328,
B.P.O.E.; the Shriners and the Knights Templar.
He is a past president of the Alhambra Kiwanis Club and of the Blueprint
and Photocopy Association of Southern California. His hobbies include golf and spending
weekends at the beach with his family.
He
married Miss Alberta Hawthorne on January 20, 1934, at Whittier, California,
and they currently reside at 468 Gerona street, San
Gabriel. The Gladwell’s
have one married daughter, Mrs. G. J. (Shirley) Nash, and a granddaughter,
Laurie Ann Nash.
