HENRY MARCUS GILLER

Henry Marcus Giller is the successful manager of Scott’s Adobe Ranch in Montebello, Los Angeles county, of which he has been in charge continuously since 1922. He was born in Carrollton, Greene county, Illinois, November 14, 1881, his parents being Charles H. And Harriet (Bonfoy) Giller, also natives of that state. His public school education was supplemented by a civil engineering course and an agricultural course in the Colorado State Agricultural College at Fort Collins, Colorado. Following his return to his birthplace he became an active assistant of his father, who owned and operated large farming properties in Illinois.

It was in 1912 that Mr. Giller came to California and purchased a ranch in the vicinity of Willows, Glenn county, this state. During his residence in northern California he served as director of the Farm Bureau, and was also chairman of Jacinto irrigation district for six years, including the period of the World war, capably discharging the duties of these important positions in addition to carrying forward the work of his ranch near Willows. In 1918 he was appointed by Governor Stephens as superintendent of District No. 1, to fill a vacancy. In 1922 he came to Montebello, Los Angeles county, where he has since remained as manager of the beautiful Scott Adobe Ranch, which was built by General Sanchez and was the scene of many historical meetings. Aside from his activities in this connection Mr. Giller also supervises a large cattle ranch for Scott and Harry Chandler in southern California, known as the Rancho De La Tres Hermanos.

On the 8th of June, 1906, Mr. Giller was united in marriage to Miss Ethel Olson, a native of Colorado and a daughter of N. A. Olson, a pioneer mining man of that state. Mr. and Mrs. Giller have won an extensive circle of warm friends throughout their home community and are held in high esteem by all who know them.
