HERBERT
FRESTON
A large measure of success in the practice of law has been obtained by Herbert Freston, member of the firm of Robe & Freston, of Los Angeles, who occupies a high position among younger members of the state bar. He is a native of Missouri, and was born in 1890 at Kansas City. His preparatory educational training was obtained in public schools, following which he entered the University of Southern California, which conferred the LL. B. degree on him in 1914.
The same year Mr. Freston was admitted to the California bar, and he then spent about a year with the Department of Justice at Los Angeles. For a short time he was associated in practice with the firm of Hahn & Hahn, and late in 1915 became a member of the firm of James, Smith & McCarthy, and later of the firm of McCarthy, Nolan & Freston. In 1924 the firm of Page, Nolan, Robe & Hurt was organized, and in 1927 it assumed the present form of Rohe & Freston.
The firm of which Mr. Freston is a member engages in general civil practice, specializing in corporation, banking and insurance law. They are Counsel for such interests as the Occidental Life Insurance Company, Warner Bros. Pictures, Inc., May Department Stores Company, Southwestern Shipbuilding Company, United Oil Company, Richfield Oil Company of California, Merchants National Trust and Savings Bank of Los Angeles, Bank of San Francisco, Liberty National Bank of Beverly Hills, First National Bank of Maywood, National Mortgage Company of California, and others.
Mr. Freston was Counsel in the conversion of the Hellman Bank of Los Angeles into a national association, and its later consolidation under the National bank act with the Merchants National Bank of Los Angeles, forming the present Merchants National Trust & Savings Bank, of Los Angeles.
During the World war Mr. Freston entered training in the Aviation corps at Rockwell Field, San Diego, and was commissioned Second Lieutenant in 1918. He was stationed for some time at Kelly Field, Tex., and received his honorable discharge in February, 1919. He holds membership in the American Bar Association, State Bar of California, and Los Angeles County Bar Association. He is a Mason, and also a member of the American Legion, Los Angeles Athletic Club, Encino Country Club and Rancho Golf Club, as well as Delta Theta Phi fraternity.
