LELAND MERRITT FORD

 

 

     Leland Merritt Ford, president of L.M. Ford and L.K. Small, Inc. and chairman and general manager of Leland M. Ford Associates (a partnership) (realtors), was born in Eureka, Nevada, March 8, 1893; son of James Green and Anna L. (Ficklin) Ford.

     Graduated from Berkeley (California) High School in 1910; then took various extension courses in real estate, appraisals, etc.

     Mr. Ford was a surveyer (sic) for South Sierras Power Company, 1909-10, for Southern Pacific Railroad, 1910-14, and for Union Pacific Railroad, 1914-16.  He engaged in ranching and livestock operations at Lynchburg, Virginia, 1916-19.  He has been president of L.M .Ford & L.K. Small, Inc., real estate brokers and appraisers, at Santa Monica, California, since 1919.

     Mr. Ford was a member of the 76th and 77th Congresses, 1939-43, 16th California District; and district supervisor for Los Angeles County, California, 1936 to 1939.

     Life member of Realty Board of Santa Monica Bay District and was president of same in 1923; also honorary life director of California Real Estate Association; member of Planning Commission of Santa Monica in 1924; director of Chamber of Commerce; member of American Right of Way Association; honorary member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and of National Association of Veterans.

     He is a Republican; Episcopalian; Mason (32nd degree, Knight Templar, Shriner); Elk; Eagle; and member of the following clubs:  Palos Verde Golf, Shrine, Deurville, Lakeside Golf, Uplifters, Bel-Air, Jonathan, Breakfast,  Rancheros, Kiwanis (past president of Westwood Village Club).  Vice president of California Real Estate Association.

     Mr. Ford married Elizabeth Beryl Seger June 11, 1914, and has two children:  Leland Merritt, Jr. and Beryl Seger.
