FRANK GRAHAM
FINLAYSON
Judge Frank G. Finlayson, senior member of the firm of Finlayson, Bennet & Morrow, of Los Angeles, enjoys a wide reputation both as lawyer and jurist. He is a native of Australia, and was born in 1864 at Bendigo. When he was three years old his parents located in San Francisco, where he attended public schools. He then entered the University of California and engaged in the study of law at Hastings Law School, which conferred on him the LL. B. degree in 1885.
Judge Finlayson entered practice at San Francisco as a member of the firm of Ladd & Finlayson. Two years later he moved to Los Angeles, where he practiced as a member of the firm of Finlayson & Finlayson. In 1895 he became Assistant United States District Attorney for the Southern District of California, serving for about a year.
In 1911 he went on the bench, being elected Judge of the Superior Court of Los Angeles County. His record in this capacity is a splendid one, proving not only his profound knowledge of the law, but unusual clarity of thought and impartiality of judgment.
Judge Finlayson is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of California and Los Angeles County Bar Association, as well as the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, Jonathan Club, Union League Club, University Club and the Scottish Rite and other Masonic orders. In 1895 he married Agnes Thayer and they have one daughter, Beatrice, now Mrs. Charles S. Forve. Judge Finlayson's grandchildren are Charles S. Forve, Jr., Frank Finlayson Forve and Louise Forve.
