HAROLD THEODORE FIEBELKORN

It is difficult to imagine that in 1942, when Mr. Harold Theodore Fiebelkorn started in business at Garvey Boulevard and Baltimore Street, there were only a few business establishments in the Garvey-Garfield area.  His business grew, and in 1948 he moved the firm Artcraft Upholstery & Interiors to the corner of South Garfield Avenue and Roselyn Way, where Mr. Fiebelkorn was one of the pioneers in the retail field of this part of Monterey Park.  The only other store was occupied by a cleaning establishment.  Mr. Fiebelkorn’s business prospered and expanded, and again the premises became too crowded.  He moved to larger quarters next to his former store, and since 1953 Artcraft Upholstery & Interiors has been located at 207 South Garfield Avenue in Monterey Park.

Mr. Fiebelkorn has built up a successful business by giving his customers excellent workmanship, a knowledge acquired by many years of experience.  Due to prompt service, courteous treatment, an exceptional line of fabrics and samples, he attracts customers from a wide area.  His furniture displays and window arrangements are always attractive, and instill confidence in the good taste and competence of the firm.

Mr. Harold Theodore Fiebelkorn is a native of Los Angeles, born on February 26, 1913, the son of Albert Fiebelkorn, a Lutheran minister, and Clara (Bohn) Fiebelkorn.

In line with Mr. Albert Fiebelkorn’s calling as a minister, the family moved to Ontario, Canada, when the son was very young.  When they moved to Trinidad, Colorado, San Jose and Monrovia, California, Harold Theodore Fiebelkorn attended elementary schools in these cities.  He graduated from Monrovia High School.

When Mr. Fiebelkorn was in the fourth grade of school, he was selected as one of 500 gifted children in the State of California by Professor Terman, head of the Psychology Department of Stanford University.  For forty years Professor Terman, his successors and the staff of his department at Stanford University have checked and recorded Mr. Fiebelkorn’s life and activities and still do.

Mr. Fiebelkorn married Avanelle Satren in Alhambra, California, on July 29, 1934.  They have two children:  Marilyn Fiebelkorn and Sandra (Mrs. James) Eaton, and three grandchildren:  Tamra Eaton, Eric Eaton and Sabrina Eaton.

The Fiebelkorn’s are members of the Arcadia Lutheran Church and Mr. Fiebelkorn is past president of the congregation.

He is a member and past master of Alhambra Masonic Lodge No. 322, a member and past high priest of San Gabriel Valley Royal Arch Masons, and member of the San Gabriel Valley Council, Commandery and Al Malaikah Shrine.  He is past president of the Monterey Park Lions Club and president of the Garvey-Garfield Merchants Association.

He enjoys a game of golf and likes to listen to music on stereo and hi-fi.
