GABRIEL C. DUQUE

 

 

            Well equipped for the arduous work of his profession, Gabriel C. Duque has become a successful lawyer, prominently connected with legal affairs of Los Angeles, his native city.  He was born February 1, 1890, a son of Thomas L. and Elita (Galdos) Duque.

            Following his graduation from the Los Angeles High School in 1910, Mr. Duque entered the University of California, from which he was graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Laws in 1914, and a year later completed his law studies at Harvard University.  He was admitted to the California bar in 1915 and to practice before all the federal courts in California and the United States Supreme Court in 1918.  He is now engaged in practice at Los Angeles in the firm of Duque & McKinley maintaining offices in the Security Building at 510 South Spring Street, and his knowledge and skill enable him to safeguard the important legal interests of which he has charge.  With business affairs of the city he is also closely identified as a director of the T. L. Duque Estate Company.  He is also a director of Security-First National Bank of Los Angeles.

            On August 16, 1927, Mr. Duque was married to Mary Withers McAlister, of Los Angeles, and they are the parents of two sons, Gabriel C., Jr., and James McAlister Duque.  They reside at 340 North Las Palmas Avenue in Los Angeles.  At the time America entered the World War, Mr. Duque enlisted in the United States Navy, becoming an ensign in 1917 and a lieutenant, junior grade, in 1918.  He was released from active duty in February, 1919, and received an honorable discharge September 10, 1921.  Mr. Duque’s college fraternities are Psi Upsilon and Phi Delta Phi.  He is a member of the California Club.  His professional affiliations are with the Los Angeles Bar Association, the State Bar of California and the American Bar Association.  In the activities of the State Bar of California, Mr. Duque has figured prominently as chairman of the Los Angeles County Local Administrative Committee in 1928-29, and throughout his career as a lawyer he has adhered to the highest professional standards, thus winning the esteem of his colleagues and the general public as well.
