CARRIE ESTELLE DOHENY
Although not a native of the Golden
state, Carrie Estelle Doheny has spent much of her life within its borders,
making her home in Los Angeles for many years, and is one of the city’s most
prominent women. She was born in
Marshalltown, Iowa, a daughter of J. Edward and Susan E. Betzold,
and acquired a high school education.
When a young woman of twenty-two she left Marshalltown, coming to Los
Angeles in 1897, and here was married August 22, 1900, to Edward Laurence
Doheny, one of the largest oil operators in this country, whose biographical
record appears on another page of this work.
Mrs. Doheny casts her ballot for
candidates of the Republican Party and is a communicant of St. Vincent’s
Catholic Church. She is a dame of the
first class of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher and a member of the
Ebell Club, the Friday Morning Club and the Women’s Athletic Club. A resident of Los Angeles for thirty-five
years, she has a wide circle of friends in the city and her fine qualities of
heart and mind have made her a potent factor in its social and cultural life.
