RICHARD DILLON
Richard Dillon was born in Kilmallock, County Limerick, Ireland, and married Mary
Hennessy of the same village. After
apprenticeship of several years with an old cloth firm of Limerick, Mr. Dillon
sailed for Melbourne, Australia, where for some period he followed the dry
goods business, coming about 1869 to San Francisco where for some six years he
was connected with the then leading firm of Kirby, Byrne & Co. In 1875 in association with Mr. John Kenealy
he established the firm of Dillon & Kenealy in Los Angeles. The firm’s activities were later extended to
Tombstone and Phoenix in Arizona.
Gradually Mr. Dillon’s interests spread into a considerable investment
in city and county real estate of southern California. Upon the dissolution of the firm of Dillon
& Kenealy, these land interests occupied the profitable attention of Mr.
Dillon until his death at Los Angeles in 1915.
Mrs. Dillon who in the great company of pioneer mothers contributed
vastly to her husband’s success also passed away in Los Angeles in 1912.
Two sons, Richard J. Dillon,
