Biographies
WILLIAM McKINLEY CRANDALL
The
distinguished attorney, William Crandall, has served the citizens of the
community of San Gabriel with legal advice since 1949. His law office is located at 8445 East Las
Tunas Drive in San Gabriel, California.
Mr.
Crandall holds membership in the Alexander Hamilton Lodge, F & AM, and in
the Golden West Commandery No. 43, Knights Templar’s, and the Al Malaikah
Temple of the Shrine. He is also active
in the Alhambra High Twelve Club and is a past president of this organization.
He
is a member of Alhambra Council No. 25, Royal and Select Masters of
California. Professionally Mr. Crandall
is associated with the San Gabriel Valley Bar Association.
Mr.
Crandall came to California from Rockford, Illinois, in 1913. He was born on January 18, 1894, in Rockford,
and is the son of Harry Stewart and Cora (McKinley) Crandall. His father was a farmer and grocer. Educated in his home town, Mr. Crandall is a
1912 graduate of Rockford High School.
Interested
in expanding his education, Mr. Crandall enrolled at the University of Southern
California shortly after his arrival in California. He graduated from this institution with the
Class of 1917, with the degree of LL.B.
While attending college, he resided with his aunt, Mrs. Eva L. Adron, in Los Angeles.
Mrs. Adron helped him financially to further
his education. Two years after his 1917
graduation from the University of Southern California, Mr. Crandall assumed a position
in the Trust Department of the Pacific Southwest Trust & Savings Bank,
which later became Security First National Bank of Los Angeles.
Ten
years later, in 1930, he left the banking business to undertake private
practice as an attorney in Los Angeles.
He moved his practice to his present location in 1949.
Miss
Fern E. Dreisbach of Los Angeles,
became Mr. Crandall’s wife on June 29, 1920, at a marriage ceremony which took
place in Los Angeles.
Their
son, Howard W. Crandall of Orinda, California, is in charge of the computing
division of the Standard Oil Company of California at San Francisco. He is married and has a daughter, Cathleen
Crandall.
A
Legionnaire for forty years, Mr. Crandall is a member of the Alhambra American
Legion Post No. 139. He is also a member
of the Highland Park Methodist Church, in Highland Park, California.
During
World War I, Mr. Crandall served two years in the United States Army
overseas. He received his basic training
in the Philippine Islands at Corregidor and was stationed for one and one-half
years in Siberia. He was attached to the
31st Infantry Regiment.
