DELOS
COMSTOCK, M. D.
An
heir to a very well-known Seventh-day Adventist family offers his services to
two California cities, Alhambra and Monrovia.
Delos Comstock, M. D., a radiologist, is the son of the late renowned
Dr. Daniel Delos Comstock, former Chief of the Medical Department of the White
Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles and professor of Medicine at the College of
Medical Evangelists, on Loma Linda University, and Dr. Belle Wood-Comstock,
also a prominent Los Angeles physician.
Dr.
Comstock was born in Glendale, California, June 14, 1910. His family moved to Pasadena, California,
when he was seven years of age, where he attended grade school. His high school work was done at Lincoln High
School in Los Angeles, California, and at La Sierra Academy, Arlington,
California, graduating from the last named school. He was a member of the first graduating class
of Pasadena Junior College, Pasadena, California, in 1926.
He
received a B.A. degree from Pacific Union College, Angwin, California, and
received his M. D. degree from the College of Medical Evangelists of Loma Linda
in Loma Linda, California (now named Loma Linda University).
An
internship at the Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California, completed the
work of Dr. Comstock for his Doctor of Medicine degree by June 30, 1932.
Dr.
Daniel Delos Comstock was very influential in the lifework of his son. Dr. Comstock chose to begin his practice in
association with his father at the White Memorial Hospital, Los Angeles, in
1933. Five years later, the younger Dr.
Comstock engaged in the practice on his own in Alhambra, California. He carried on this practice to support
himself in a residency in radiology he had entered at the White Memorial
Hospital. In 1942 he passed the American
Board of Radiology and settled down to serve Alhambra full time. He established his radiological and clinical
laboratory facilities at 940 East Main Street.
In 1949 he had opened a similar office at 635 W. Foothill Boulevard,
Monrovia, California.
During
World War II, Dr. Comstock was a lieutenant colonel in the United States Army
Medical Corps. For his services as
commanding officer of the 76th Station Hospital in Tokyo, Japan, he
received an Army Commendation Citation.
Dr.
Comstock belongs to the American Medical Association, the California Medical
Association and the Los Angeles County Medical Association. He is an active member of the Los Angeles
Radiological Society, a Diplomate of the American
Board of Radiology and a member of the Public Health League of California.
Dr.
Comstock is not only the official radiologist at the Garfield Hospital in
Monterey Park, California; he serves on the staff of the Beverly Community
Hospital in Montebello, California.
A
life member of the Alumni Association of the School of Medicine of the College
of Medical Evangelists in Loma Linda, California, Dr. Comstock taught radiology
there on a part-time basis until 1961.
He has been on the teaching staff of the California College of Mortuary
Science in Los Angeles for 22 years teaching pathology.
Dr.
Comstock retains membership in the medical fraternity, Theta Kappa Psi, and in
the scholastic chemistry honorary society, Phi Lambda Epsilon.
His
civic life, like his professional life, can be described as nothing less than
very active. A member and past president
of the Monrovia, California, Rotary Club, he served as VISA International
Student Activities Chairman for Rotary District 530. He is the 1961 president of the Monrovia
Community Chest and a member of the Alhambra Chamber of Commerce.
Dr.
Comstock’s wife, Mrs. Nadine (Holmes) Comstock, was born in Eureka, California,
and attended Pacific Union College in Angwin, California, with Dr.
Comstock. They were married on June 20,
1946, and they have two teenage children, Daniel Delos Comstock II and Clarissa
Ann.
The
Comstock’s belong to the congregation of the Alhambra Seventh-Day Adventist
Church.
In
his leisure, Dr. Comstock listens to music and climbs mountains. He also participates in youth activities,
including the Boy Scouts. He has been a
member of the Pasadena Chorus for the past ten years and was its president in
1954.
