PETER
COLEFAX
Peter Colefax, president of American Potash and Chemical Corporation of Los Angeles, was born in London, England, on March 22, 1903. The son of Arthur and Sibyl (Halsey) Colefax.
He was a student at Eton College from 1916 to 1920; then attended Oxford University, 1921 to 1924, receiving the B.A. and M.A. degrees.
Mr. Colefax came to the United States in 1924 and was subsequently naturalized. He was connected with the New York Times from 1924 to 1925; then with Edward B. Smith & Company (now Smith, Barney & Company) from 1925 to 1929; American representative, Guinness Mahon & Company, of London, England, from 1929 to 1932; associated with Cyrus J. Lawrence & Sons, New York City, from 1932 to 1934. In 1934 he became associated with the American Potash and Chemical Corporation at New York City and in 1945 removed to Los Angeles, California, as representative for the same corporation, of which he has been a director since 1935, secretary and treasurer from 1935 to 1941, vice president, secretary and treasurer from 1941 to 1944, vice president and secretary from 1944 to 1945, executive vice president and secretary from 1945 to 1946, executive vice president from 1946 to 1947, and president since 1947.
Mr. Colefax married Sonia Savin on December 19, 1930, and has one son, Micky. Their home is at 325 South Hudson Avenue, Los Angeles 5, California.
