ROBERT M. CLARKE

 

 

      Judge Robert M. Clarke, senior member of the firm of Clarke & Bowker, of Los Angeles, is one of California's most successful lawyers. He has been active in legal circles of the state for more than a quarter of a century, and his career has been distinguished by marked achievement.

      Judge Clarke was born in 1879 at Ventura, where he received his early educational training in public schools. He was admitted to the bar in 1900. He entered practice at Santa Paula and was City Attorney for several years. He served as a member of the California Assembly from 1901 to 1903, and in 1908 was elected Judge of the Superior Court of Ventura County, serving until 1915. The same year he became Assistant Attorney General of California.

      In 1917 Judge Clarke located in Los Angeles and re-entered private practice in partnership with Don G. Bowker, under the firm name of Clarke & Bowker. They engage in general civil practice and are accorded a large and representative clientele.

      Judge Clarke holds membership in the American Bar Association, State Bar of California, and Los Angeles County Bar Association, which he served as President in 1924. He is a Mason and Shriner and a member of the Native Sons of the Golden West, of which he is a former Grand Trustee; as well as Phi Delta Phi fraternity, California Club and Wilshire Country Club. In 1900 he married Edna Thurmond and they have four children, Thurmond, a practicing attorney, Robert M., Jr., Rosamond and Susan.
