LYNN B. CAYOT

A family working together—stays together.  This is a proven fact for the family of Lynn B. Cayot, owner of the Commonwealth Company.  Manufacturing vented gas wall furnaces, Mr. Cayot’s business is located at 2127 West Commonwealth Avenue, in Alhambra.

The son of Joseph Ferdinand and Belle (Brown) Cayot, Mr. Cayot was born on September 6, 1901, in Westphalia, Kansas.  Moving to La Jolla, California, in 1906 where his father established a laundry business, Mr. Cayot attended elementary schools in La Jolla and was graduated from the San Diego High School in 1920.  An active athlete in the games of football and baseball in both high school and college, Mr. Cayot attended the University of California at Berkeley from 1921 to 1923, majoring in Engineering.

His first job was with the Pacific Casket Company, during the years 1923 to 1926.  In 1927 Mr. Cayot went into business for himself, forming the Commonwealth Company, near the corner of Marengo Avenue and Valley Boulevard in Alhambra.  The business was moved to its present location in 1929.  His products are sold in 30 of the United States and he employs 35 to 75 persons, depending upon his contracts.

On April 5, 1924, Mr. Cayot married Miss Kathleen McCamy, a native of Oklahoma, in the First Episcopal Church in La Jolla, California.  The Cayot’s have two sons, Dean H. and Frederick L., both of whom are married.  Both sons are very active in their father’s business.  There are five grandchildren in the Cayot family.

For relaxation Mr. and Mrs. Cayot have a lovely beach home at Corona Del Mar, California, which is on the edge of a bluff, overlooking Balboa Island.  This is a home of pride and joy, which the entire family enjoys, and where they spend most of their spare time together.

During World War II and the Korean War, Mr. Cayot was actively engaged in defense work, manufacturing templates for Lockheed and Douglas Aircraft companies.

An active member of the First Methodist Church of Alhambra, Mr. Cayot has been a member of both the Alhambra and Los Angeles Chambers of Commerce for the past 21 years.  He is a member and 1958-59 past president of the Alhambra Optimist Club and alumni of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity at the University of California at Berkeley.

For his hobby Mr. Cayot plays a good round of golf.  Just to amuse him, and for his own pleasure, he plays the piano.
