JOHN WELCH CARRIGAN

John W. Carrigan, of Los Angeles, who has recently returned to the private practice of law in that city, is known as an authority on the subjects of workman's compensation and taxation in its various phases. He is a native of the state of Minnesota, born in 1874 at Rush City, and received his preparatory training in public schools. He later entered the University of Southern California and engaged in the study of law, graduating with the LL. B. degree in 1905.

That same year Mr. Carrigan was admitted to the California bar and entered upon the practice of his profession alone at Los Angeles. In 1913 he became State Inheritance Tax Attorney, in which position he remained until 1921. Two years later he was made a member of the California State Industrial Accident Commission, serving with unusual ability until January 1, 1928, when he resumed the general practice of law.

Mr. Carrigan assisted in drafting amendments to the state inheritance tax act and compensation law, and is also known for his writings, chiefly confined to articles on taxation and workmen's compensation. He is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of California and Los Angeles County Bar Association, as well as the Knights of Columbus, A. O. H., Los Angeles Athletic Club and Lakeside Golf Club. In 1899 he married Carrie J. Bartell and they have a daughter, Juanita.
