EDWARD A. CARSON

 

 

            Edward A. Carson, a retired businessman of Los Angeles who for many years was active in the electrical field, was born on the old Dominguez Rancho near Compton, California, June 6, 1869.  His father, the late George C. Carson, one of the early pioneers of California, married a daughter of Manuel Dominquez.  He died November 20, 1901, at his beautiful home in San Pedro, California.  Victoria (Dominguez) Carson, the mother of E. A. Carson, passed away December 8, 1916.

            As a member of a family of wealth and social position, Edward A. Carson was accorded splendid educational advantages in his youth.  He attended the public schools of Compton, California, was graduated from the Woodbury Business College of Los Angeles in 1888 and subsequently spent three years as a student at the University of Santa Clara.  Later he read law in the office of Judge H. K. S. O’Melveny, but never practiced the profession.  He was appointed clerk of the board of supervisors in 1896, which position he held for years.  Elected city auditor of Los Angeles, he continued in public office for two years.  He then joined the San Gabriel Electric Company, the Pacific Light and Power Company, and, at the time of merger, the Southern California Edison Company remaining in this position until the city took over the corporation.  He was associated with the lighting companies for about seventeen years.  He is now living retired in Los Angeles and is widely recognized as one of the prominent and highly respected residents of the city.

            On the 16th of April, 1896, in Los Angeles, Mr. Carson was united in marriage to Miss Cecelia C. Pearson, a native of this city and a daughter of Mrs. Mary A. Pearson.  Their home is at 1910 South Hobart Boulevard in Los Angeles.  Mr. Carson is a Republican in politics and is a communicant of St. Agnes Catholic Church.  Fraternally he is affiliated with the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, belonging to Lodge No. 99.  His hobby is mechanics.
