BERNARD P. CALHOUN

Bernard P. Calhoun, a recognized authority on code laws, is numbered among the able and successful young attorneys of Los Angeles.  He was born in Columbus, Montana, January 15, 1897, his parents being Henry J. and Mary (Lavelle) Calhoun, who still reside in Columbus, where the father has extensive ranching interests.

Bernard P. Calhoun acquired a public school education at the place of his nativity and subsequently entered the University of Minnesota, from which institution he was graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Laws in 1921.  Returning to Columbus, Montana, he there began the practice of his chosen profession and built up a gratifying clientele, but his ambition prompted him to seek a larger field of activity.  Thus when he had saved a few thousand dollars he made his way to Los Angeles and on the 26th of September, 1929 was admitted to the California bar.  Here he became an office associate of Pierson M. Hall, one of the leading attorneys of Los Angeles, with whom he continued his connection until the latter was appointed United States district attorney for the southern district of California in 1933.  During the past three years Mr. Calhoun has followed his profession independently, his practice steadily growing in volume and importance as he has demonstrated his legal learning and ability.  As previously indicated, he is considered an authority on code laws by reason of his thorough understanding and correct interpretation thereof.  Mr. Calhoun has membership in the California State Bar Association and maintains offices in the Subway Terminal building at 417 South Hill street in Los Angeles.  He served the NRA from November 1933, to September 1934, as legal advisor.  He married Patricia Marion Walker in April, 1935.
