Biographies
ELMER CAIN
Elmer Cain, writer and publicist, was born in Jefferson City, Missouri, December 9, 1903, the son of Charles William and Barbara Francis (Pack) Cain. He studied law at Southwestern University Law School, Los Angeles.
Mr. Cain was editor of the Los Angeles News from 1926 to 1935. Editor of Los Angeles Daily Journal since 1935, Los Angeles Commercial News since1942, Aviation News since 1942, Shipbuilders News since 1942, and Los Angeles Independent Review since 1942. Executive vice president of Airport, Inc., since 1945. He is partner in Cain & Goodale, political engineers, Los Angeles.
He was commentator and radio drama producer, 1941 to 1946; producer of radio program, We, The War Workers, 1942 to 1944; assistant publishing director of all California State Bar conventions, 1928 to 1941; publicity director of Mayor Fletcher Bowron’s election, Los Angeles, 1945, Progressive Republican Club, Los Angeles, 1944, Los Angeles Bar Association, 1943 and 1944, and Los Angeles Lawyers Club.
Mr. Cain was campaign manager for 7th Council District election, Los Angeles, 1945, and Councilman McClanahan recall, 13th District, Los Angeles, in 1946. Founder-member of American Academy of Public Affairs. Author of “The California Constitutional Convention of 1879,” 1930; “A Short History of California Courts,” 1930; “Postwar Economic Prospects in the United States,” 1944. Also radio and motion picture writer; ghost writer for trade publications; and contributor of articles and fiction to magazines and newspapers. He is a Democrat in politics.
Mr. Cain married Betty Ruth Flanagan on May 12, 1944, and has two children: Elmer and Cheryl Gay.
