Biographies
JOHN SHERIDAN BYRNES, JR.
For
the past five years, John Sheridan Byrnes, Jr., has been active in the practice
of law at 317 West Main Street in Alhambra, and during this time has become widely
known for his ability as an attorney and his active participation in community
affairs.
He
was born on June 3, 1928, in Portland, Oregon.
His father, John Sheridan Byrnes, Sr., is in real estate. His mother is Margaret Valerie (Coffey)
Byrnes. His grandfather, John B. Byrnes,
was County Clerk in Multnomah County, Oregon.
John
S. Byrnes, Jr., went to the Madeline School in Portland, attended high school
at Columbia Preparatory School and Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose,
California. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in
1950, and his Law degree in 1955, both from the University of California at Los
Angeles.
In
1944 Mr. Byrnes moved to California, and in June of 1956, he opened his law
practice in Alhambra. He moved to his
present location at 317 West Main Street, Alhambra, in 1957. From 1950 to 1952 he served in the United
States Army and during the Korean War was sent to Japan. Service awards he received were the United
Nations Medal and the Korean Service Ribbon.
Mr.
Byrnes married Miss Monica Rohrer in Okauchee,
Wisconsin, on November 26, 1955, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. The Brynes’ have
three children: Katherine Marie, born on
December 25, 1956; John S., III, born on January 7, 1958; and Margaret Valerie,
who was born on November 13, 1959.
The
Byrnes family attends All Souls Catholic Church in Alhambra. Mr. Byrnes is a past president of the Holy
Name Society of the church.
His
fraternal affiliations include the Knights of Columbus, Third Degree; Alpha Tau
Omega and Phi Alpha Delta fraternities.
Mr. Byrnes is also a member of the American Bar Association, the State
Bar Association and the San Gabriel Valley Bar Association. He is also a member of the Alhambra Chamber
of Commerce and of the Alhambra Civitan Club.
