HORACE W. BROWER
Horace W. Brower, president of Occidental Life Insurance Company of California, was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on August 10, 1900. The son of William N. and Elsie Ann (Chambers) Brower. His education was obtained in the public schools of Kansas City, Missouri and Los Angeles, California.
Mr. Brower was bookkeeper for the Continental National Bank, Los Angeles, California, from 1920 to 1922; then from 1922 to 1933 he was associated with the Bank of Italy (later Bank of America, National Trust and Savings Association), of which he was successively general bookkeeper, note teller, assistant secretary, assistant cashier, and assistant vice president. Manager of the mortgage loan department, Occidental Life Insurance Company of California, from 1933 to 1935, assistant secretary from 1935 to 1943, vice president from 1943 to 1946, executive vice president from 1946 to 1950, and president as of January 1, 1951. Also a director of Occidental Life Insurance Company of California, vice chairman of the Board of Directors of Allied Building Credits, Inc., Los Angeles, director of the Better Business Bureau of Los Angeles, Ltd., of the California Insurance Federation, Inc., and the Institute of Life Insurance.
Member of the Hacienda Golf Club, the Los Angeles Athletic Club, and the Greater Los Angeles Press Club.
Mr. Brower married Margurette Hamell on January 20, 1923, and they have one daughter, Nancy. Their home is at 1645 Las Flores Avenue, San Marino, California.
