LABAN H. BREWER
L. H. Brewer, president of Peoples Bank, Lakewood, Long Beach, was born in Lakeport, California, on September 11, 1895. The son of Herbert W. and Millie (Gruwell) Brewer, he is a graduate of the American Institute of Banking.
Mr. Brewer began his banking career in 1921 as a bookkeeper for the El Centro Branch of Southern Trust & Commerce Bank, and stayed with them for two years. He was teller to the auditor of the First National Bank of Whittier, California, from 1923 to 1929; bank manager of Bank of American, N.T. & S.A. at La Habra, Covina, and Santa Paula, California from 1930 to 1943; and has been president of the Peoples Bank, Lakewood, Long Beach, California, since 1943. Also director of Long Beach Community Chest.
Director of the Long Beach Council of Boy Scouts of America; member of the Harbor Affairs Committee, Long Beach Chamber of Commerce; director of Family Service Association, Long Beach Chapter; belongs to the First Presbyterian Church of Long Beach; and is deputy district governor, Bay Region, District 4-D-2, Lions International.
Mr. Brewer married Mildred Kelly August 22, 1917, and has three children: John H., David C., and Nancy M.
