HENRY
GRATTAN BODKIN
Henry Grattan Bodkin, attorney, was born in California on March 20, 1886; son of John Joseph and Marian (O’Brennan) Bodkin.
He graduated from St. Vincent’s College, Los Angeles, California, in 1906 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He obtained his law education through private study. Admitted to the State Bar of California at Los Angeles on August 10, 1910 and to the Arizona bar in 1919. Received an honorary degree of J.D. in 1928 and an LL.D. degree from Loyola University Law School in 1932.
Mr. Bodkin entered law practice at Los Angeles, California, where he is now senior member of the firm of Bodkin, Breslin & Luddy. Formerly a member of the firm of Ford and Bodkin and later the firm of Bodkin and Lucas.
He holds membership in Native Sons of the Golden West; Knights of Columbus; Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity (honorary); and the following clubs: Hollywood Athletic and the Stock Exchange.
In 1929 Mr. Bodkin was elected a member of the Board of Governors of the State Bar and was re-elected two years later, serving as vice president the last year of his second term.
In 1938 he was appointed to the Police Commission of the City of Los Angeles, serving three years, the last two years as president of the Police Commission.
On May 29, 1918, Mr. Bodkin married Ruth M. Wallis at Los Angeles, California, and they have one son, Henry Grattan, Jr. Their home is in Westwood, Los Angeles, California, at 11132 Sunset Boulevard.
