E. MANCHESTER BODDY

 

 

            E. Manchester Boddy, publisher of Los Angeles Daily News, was born in Lake Tapps, Washington, on November 1, 1891; the son of Benjamin and Susan Dennis (Morgan) Boddy.

            He was a student at Washington State College, Pullman, Washington, 1911 to 1912; then attended the University of Montana, 1913 to 1914.

             From 1916 to 1918 Mr. Boddy acted as director of sales, New York City and North Eastern Territory, for Encyclopedia Britannica; manager of distribution of Current History Magazine and Mid-Week Pictorial, 1920; organizer of the Mexican Year Book Publishing Company in 1920 and published the Mexican Year Book, 1921 to 1922; director of sales, printing and binding department, of the Los Angeles Times Mirror Press, 1922 to 1923; now publisher, principal owner and editor of the Huntington Park Signal and also the Los Angeles Illustrated Daily News; also associate editor of L. D. Powell Company (book publishers).  He acquired the Los Angeles Evening Post-Record on January 1, 1935; now editor and publisher of Los Angeles Daily News

            Mr. Boddy served as Lieutenant with Infantry, United States Army, during World War I; disabled in batter in Argonne Forest on October 8, 1918.

            He is director of the Sixth Agricultural District of Southern California Horticultural Institute; director of Children’s Home Society; member of the American Society of Newspaper Editors; member of Phi Sigma Kappa and Sigma Delta Chi fraternities; Democrat; Mason; and member of the following clubs: California, Athletic, The Writers, and the Army and Navy Club.

            Mr. Boddy married Berenice M. Klotz on December 31, 1917.  They have two sons, Robert Manchester and Calvin Jay.  Their home is in La Canada, California.
