Teamwork, an essential ingredient in a successful business, and also essential to a successful marriage, is utilized very nicely in this double capacity by Clayton D. Blehm, a certified public accountant, and his charming wife, Jacqueline, a registered pharmacist.  As a team, the Blehm’s own three general drugstores and the San Gabriel Medical Building.  Mr. Blehm handles each store as a separate unit, doing volume buying with an aim to providing the nicest possible store and the best quality merchandise for the lowest possible price.  Mrs. Blehm supervises and orders for the pharmaceutical phase of the business which employs seven pharmacists.

Before her marriage Mrs. Blehm was the owner of Center Pharmacy in Alhambra at 703 West Valley Blvd., which the Blehm’s have retained and in addition to which they opened the San Gabriel Medical Building and Blehm’s Valley Pharmacy in November, 1958, at 808 East Valley Blvd., San Gabriel.  In March, 1961, they opened Blehm’s Drugs at 7246 North Rosemead in San Gabriel.  The eight thousand square foot medical building houses four complete medical suites, all separate practices, and the drugstore.  Contemporary modern in design, it is one of the finest buildings of its type in the San Gabriel Valley.  Mr. and Mrs. Blehm incorporated many of their ideas in the décor of the medical building which features hand painted murals in the hallways and in the individual suites.

Clayton D. Blehm was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma, on November 3, 1932, the son of Ben and Amelia (Lorenz) Blehm, who are presently living in Oklahoma.  His father is a native of Marion, Kansas; his mother was born in Albany, New York.  When Mr. Blehm was a boy he lived and attended schools in California for several years.  Mr. Blehm later returned to Oklahoma where he attended Big Four High School in Kingfisher County and, after graduation from high school, attended Phillips University at Enid, Oklahoma, for two years.  California had appealed to him so much that he returned and completed his college education at the University of California at Los Angeles where in 1956 he received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a specialization in accounting.  In August, 1959, he was licensed as a certified public accountant by the State of California.  He is a member of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.  He is also a member of the University of California at Los Angeles Alumni Association.

Jacqueline Bruch (Mohl) Blehm was born in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Bruch) Mohl, who were both born in Austria-Hungary, but came to Cincinnati, Ohio, while still in their teens.  Mr. and Mrs. Mohl, who have both passed away, came to California on their honeymoon in 1924 and remained for the rest of their lives.  Mr. Mohl was in the sheet metal business in San Gabriel from 1932 until his retirement in 1944.  Mrs. Blehm attended Muscatel School, was graduated from El Monte High School, and later from the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy.  She is a member and the corresponding secretary of the San Gabriel Valley Pharmaceutical Association and a member of the California Pharmaceutical Association as well as the Pharmaceutical Institute.  Mrs. Blehm is also a member of both the University of Southern California Alumni Association and of its School of Pharmacy Alumni Association.

The Blehm’s are the parents of two sons, John C. Blehm, who attends Stoneman School in San Marino, and Stephen D. Blehm, of pre-school age.  Their mutual interests are decorating, bowling, ping pong, golf, and gardening.  They completely remodeled and landscaped their San Marino home which they purchased in 1960.  Mr. and Mrs. Blehm both bowl in the Allied Medical Services League, and both love to work in their yard.  Two of Mr. Blehm’s solo interests are singing and writing.  He is now working on a book in which he will discuss economic, politics and social issues.  Mrs. Blehm’s private delight is sewing.  She finds time, apart from her many activities, to design and make most of her own clothes.  She also studies piano.
