JAMES STARK
BENNETT
Another successful corporation lawyer of California is James S. Bennett, member of the well known firm of Finlayson, Bennett & Morrow, of Los Angeles. Thoroughly prepared for the practice of his profession by thorough academic training, he rapidly advanced in the importance and extent of his practice, and after more than 20 years he occupies a prominent position in legal circles.
Mr. Bennett is a native of New York, and was born in 1879 at Sherburne. When very young he moved with his parents to California, and after attending public schools he entered Pomona College, from which he graduated with the degree B.Litt. in 1903. He then took up postgraduate work and the study of law at Columbia University, which conferred on him the M. A. degree in 1905 and the LL. B. degree the following year.
In 1906 Mr. Bennett was admitted to the California bar and became associated with the firm of Hunsaker & Britt, of Los Angeles. Two years later he entered partnership with F. J. Fleming, and in 1912 became a member of the firm of Jones & Bennett. Upon the retirement from the bench of Judge Frank G. Finlayson, Mr. Bennett entered into partnership with him, under the present firm name of Finlayson, Bennett & Morrow.
Mr. Bennett holds membership in the American Bar Association, State Bar of California, and Los Angeles County Bar Association, as well as the University Club and various other organizations. In 1907 he married Ethelwyn Foote and they have five children, Louise, Caroline, Constance, Rollin and Margaret.
